Paul Baas

Professor Paul Baas is currently Chief of the Department of Thoracic Oncology at the Netherlands Cancer Institute in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He gained his medical degree in 1986 from the University of Amsterdam and trained as a chest physician at the Free University. He holds a PhD in Applied Medicine from the University of Amsterdam and has been appointed as Professor in Thoracic Oncology at its Academic Medical Center.
Professor Baas has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers and is involved in several cancer research groups including the European Thoracic Oncology Platform (ETOP), the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
Since 1992, Professor Baas has focused on the introduction of new treatment applications and studies in patients with lung cancer and mesothelioma. Over the past few years, he has concentrated on the implementation of immuno-oncology treatment in both lung cancer and mesothelioma. Translational research is part of most of the Phase 2 studies initiated in his clinic.
